# Optus Voicemail: Set Up 321, Listen and Change Ring Time

### Set up and check your mailbox

1. Call from the correct SIM
   On a dual-SIM phone, choose the Optus line before dialling 321.

2. Finish the tutorial
   Follow the prompts for your PIN, name and greeting. Optus’s 321 guide says to complete the tutorial in full.

3. Make a test call
   Use another phone, let the Optus phone ring unanswered and leave a short message. Then call 321 to check it.

For a greeting, keep the request simple: name, reason for calling and a callback number. Follow the mailbox prompts to change it later. We have not verified a current consumer menu-key sequence, so follow what your own mailbox says rather than an old list of button presses.

## Give yourself longer to answer

For 30 seconds before voicemail, dial \*\*61\*321\*\*30# and press Call. Optus supports five-second increments up to 30 seconds. This changes the no-answer diversion timer; it does not change the ringtone sound or volume.

## Turn voicemail off

Message Optus in My Optus or My Account and ask to remove carrier voicemail from the relevant number. Ask the agent to confirm what callers will hear afterwards. This avoids using a blanket diversion-cancellation code that might also remove a forwarding arrangement you meant to keep.

## Before travelling

Save +61 411 000 321 and make sure you know your mailbox PIN before leaving. Optus’s older 321 guide also describes entering your full mobile number and PIN when prompted. It is a business guide, so we use it for the basic mailbox process, not as evidence of today’s consumer charges.

Ask Optus how voicemail retrieval and diversions are charged on your particular roaming arrangement. Do not assume that a domestic inclusion makes the same call free overseas.

### If voicemail still fails

- 321 does not connect
  Check: Which SIM placed the call and whether you are overseas.
  Next: Use the appropriate access number above, then contact Optus if access still fails.

- The caller cannot leave a message
  Check: Whether you completed setup and whether unanswered calls divert.
  Next: Ask support to check voicemail provisioning and the no-answer diversion on the service.

- The PIN is rejected
  Check: Whether you are using a voicemail PIN rather than a phone-unlock code.
  Next: Request a reset through Optus; avoid repeated guesses.
