# How to Check Your Own Phone Number in Australia

**Quick answer**

Open your provider account and check the mobile service number. On Samsung Galaxy, Settings → About phone also lists it. If the phone shows an old or unknown number, confirm through your provider before giving it out.

### Where to look on your phone

- Samsung Galaxy: Settings → About phone
  Look for Phone number, not the model, IMEI or serial number.

- iPhone with iMessage set up: Settings → Apps → Messages → Send & Receive
  Look at the phone numbers listed. An Apple Account email is not your mobile number.

- Other Android phones: search Settings for phone number or SIM status
  Labels vary by manufacturer. If the field is missing, use your provider account.

## Find the correct account

For Telstra, open My Telstra and select Services. For Optus, open My Account and its services section. If your household has several services, read the full number rather than relying on a nickname such as “Dad’s phone”.

For Vodafone or a reseller, start with the account you use to pay or recharge that SIM. A recent bill or activation confirmation is another useful record. Ask the provider to confirm the current service number if those records disagree; do not treat the network name at the top of the screen as the name of the company billing you.

## Call someone you trust

Our simplest cross-check is a normal phone call to someone beside you. Ask them to open the incoming call details and read the digits back, rather than the saved contact name. This works only if your outgoing caller ID is visible and the service can make calls.

With two SIMs, select the line you are checking before you call. A WhatsApp call or an iMessage conversation is a poor substitute: you may be seeing an app identity or a previously registered number.

### When the answers disagree

- Settings says Unknown
  Check: Whether the service is active in your provider account.
  Next: Use the account number field labelled mobile/service number, or contact support; avoid resetting a working phone just to populate this field.

- The SIM packet has a different number
  Check: Whether you brought your old number across.
  Next: Confirm the completed transfer with the provider; keep the SIM serial separate from the phone number.

- Two numbers appear
  Check: Which SIM is used for calls and which for data.
  Next: Write down both with clear labels and test each line separately.

Once confirmed, save the number in your own contact card. If you are filling out a form, copy it from that record instead of a photo of the SIM packaging.
