Vodafone gives you five ways to recharge a prepaid mobile: a public web page, the My Vodafone app, a phone call, a text message and a voucher. This guide covers each one, what it needs, how auto recharge and My Credit fit in, and what to do when a payment goes through but the recharge does not. Steps and numbers come from Vodafone Australia’s own support pages, checked on 10 September 2026. We have not made a recharge or tested a signed-in account for this revision.

**Quick answer**

Fastest way: open [Vodafone Express Recharge](https://myaccount.myvodafone.com.au/recharge/express), enter the prepaid number and pay, or use My recharge under Highlights in the My Vodafone app. No internet? Call 1511 from your Vodafone phone, or text a recharge keyword to 1511. Vouchers can be redeemed online or through 1511 with their 12-digit PIN.

Before you begin: the exact Vodafone prepaid number, a card, PayPal account or voucher, and a decision about auto recharge. Saving a payment method authorises automatic renewal, so check that setting before you save one.

## Every Way to Recharge, Compared

These are routes to the same task, not recommendations to buy a particular plan. Pick by what you have in front of you. If you are helping someone else, confirm their number and the recharge they want before paying.

### Which Recharge Method Suits You?

- Express Recharge in a browser: The public recharge page asks for a mobile number, not a login, then takes card, digital wallet or a voucher.
No sign-in, so it also works for topping up a family member’s number
Check the number carefully; a recharge on the wrong service is a support call to fix

- My Vodafone app: Sign in, open Highlights and choose My recharge. Your plan details sit under My products & services.
Shows balance, expiry and the plan you are renewing
Needs a working login; Vodafone moved to an email-and-password sign-in

- Call 1511: Follow the prompts to pay with a registered card or PayPal account, or redeem a voucher PIN.
Works with no internet at all
Card and PayPal recharges by phone need the payment method registered first

- Text a keyword to 1511: Send the keyword for the recharge you want, such as PLUS40 or PAYGO40, and follow the reply.
Free to send, and quick once a payment method is registered
The keyword picks the product, not just the amount; check Vodafone’s current list

- Voucher: Buy a compatible voucher, then redeem the 12-digit PIN online or by calling 1511.
No card or account needed at the checkout
Vouchers must suit your service and have their own redemption deadline

- Auto recharge: Vodafone renews the plan from your latest recharge on its expiry date, using a saved card or PayPal.
Set and forget; no lapse in service while payments succeed
Opting in happens when you save a payment method, so review the setting

## Recharge Online with Express Recharge

Express Recharge is Vodafone’s public web page for prepaid top-ups. It needs the mobile number rather than an account login, which makes it the practical way to recharge a parent’s or child’s number from your own phone or computer. The entry screen shows card and digital-wallet logos; availability for your transaction is confirmed inside the payment flow.

**Step by step**

1. Open Express Recharge at myaccount.myvodafone.com.au/recharge/express.

2. Enter the Vodafone prepaid number you want to recharge.

3. Select Continue, or Recharge with a voucher if you have a voucher PIN.

4. Follow the prompts. Before authorising payment, check the number, the recharge, its expiry and the total shown.

5. Keep the confirmation, then check the service balance before trying again.

## Recharge in the My Vodafone App

The app is where you can see the balance, expiry and plan you are about to renew. Vodafone documents the same route for its web account. These menu names come from the provider’s current guide rather than a hands-on app test.

**Step by step**

1. Open My Vodafone and sign in.

2. Find Highlights and select My recharge.

3. Follow the recharge prompts for your prepaid service.

4. Review the purchase before confirming it. To check the plan you are renewing, look under My products & services, then More details.

If you cannot sign in, check whether you have set up Vodafone’s newer email-and-password login. Use Vodafone’s [account-access help](https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/my-vodafone/access-troubleshooting-guide) rather than assuming older login instructions still apply.

## Recharge with a Voucher

A voucher is a payment method, not a guarantee that every recharge is available. Check that it suits your service before buying it. Vodafone distinguishes the deadline to redeem a voucher from the expiry of the recharge it applies to your account; read both, and do not treat an unused voucher as an active recharge.

To redeem, use the voucher option on Express Recharge, or call 1511 from your Vodafone phone and follow the prompts with the 12-digit PIN. Vodafone also lists SMS redemption, but the pages we read do not clearly set out the exact message format for every voucher, so use the printed instructions or the online and phone routes rather than guessing a command. Keep the receipt until the recharge appears. If you bought the wrong voucher, Vodafone directs you to 1511; do not assume that redeeming an incompatible amount will keep your current plan.

## Recharge by Phone or SMS When You Have No Internet

Call 1511 from your Vodafone phone and follow the prompts to recharge with a registered card or PayPal account, or to redeem a voucher. Messages to 1511 are free. Card and PayPal recharges by SMS need a registered payment method; My Credit and vouchers are also supported, subject to Vodafone’s instructions.

Vodafone’s keyword table lists commands such as PLUS40 for a $40 Prepaid Plus recharge and PAYGO40 for a $40 Pay and Go recharge. They identify different products, so the dollar amount alone is not enough to choose the command. Check [Vodafone’s current SMS keyword list](https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/prepaid/recharge-by-sms), send the right keyword from your Vodafone service and follow the reply. The examples identify commands, not a recommendation about data, discounts or expiry.

## Set Up, Check or Stop Auto Recharge

Auto recharge renews the plan tied to your latest recharge on its expiry date, using a saved card or PayPal account. Vodafone says payment is first attempted from 5 pm AEDT on the final day; that is the provider’s stated timezone, so check the actual scheduled renewal in your account. You can manage it in My Vodafone or by text.

### Auto Recharge SMS Controls

Send each message from your Vodafone phone to 1263.

- Opt in: Text ATR to 1263.
  Turns automatic renewal on

- Check your details: Text status ATR to 1263.
Returns the renewal amount, expiry and payment method on file

- Opt out: Text NO ATR to 1263.
  Turns automatic renewal off

> Saving a card or PayPal account authorises auto recharge. Review that choice even if you only intended to make one purchase.

If your account is on the $35 Auto Recharge Only plan, Vodafone says opting out requires moving to another plan. That describes an existing-account condition, not confirmation that the plan is available to new sign-ups.

For a main phone, automatic renewal suits someone who wants continuity and can fund each recharge. For a spare service or a tightly controlled budget, manual renewal is easier to keep an eye on. These are editorial scenarios, not promises of uninterrupted service or savings.

## Which Recharge Should You Pick?

Once the immediate recharge is sorted, compare the allowance you actually use, the recharge period and the ongoing cost. A starter-SIM promotion can have different eligibility from a recharge on an existing service, so check the provider’s terms before treating an advertised offer as your next renewal price. Rather than print a table that goes stale, the list below is pulled live from Wireless Choices, Tech X Telco’s sister comparison service.

### Vodafone Prepaid Plans Listed by Wireless Choices

Comparison supplied by Wireless Choices. Check offer eligibility, renewal pricing and provider terms before purchasing. The comparison is separate from Vodafone’s recharge and account-support services. We may earn a commission if you sign up through the plan links.

If the table does not load, [compare prepaid plans on Wireless Choices](https://wirelesschoices.com.au/mobile/compare-prepaid-plans). For a fair budget comparison, count days as well as dollars: twelve 28-day recharges cover 336 days, not a 365-day year, and a calendar-month plan follows a different schedule again. That is arithmetic, not a Vodafone price claim.

**Reader poll**

How do you usually recharge your Vodafone prepaid?

- Express Recharge online

- My Vodafone app

- A voucher from the shops

- Calling or texting 1511

- Auto recharge

## Check Your Balance and Understand My Credit

To check your prepaid balance, use My Vodafone, call 1512, or text BAL to 1511. Notice the two different numbers: 1512 checks the balance, 1511 handles recharges.

My Credit is a separate balance. It can fund eligible recharges and add-ons, and may also be spent on particular services outside your inclusions. Adding My Credit is not automatically the same as renewing your usual bundle, so check which product the purchase screen names before you pay.

## When a Recharge Does Not Go Through

**If something goes wrong**

- Paid, but the recharge is missing?
Check: compare the service number, the receipt, the account balance and whether the bank transaction is still pending.
Next: avoid a second payment until you understand the first. Keep the reference and ask Vodafone to trace it.

- A separate $1 card transaction appeared?
Check: Vodafone describes a $1 verification charge on an unsaved credit card, reversed within seven days.
Next: if it is still there after that period, ask Vodafone and your card issuer to investigate.

- Card recharge declined?
Check: the payment details, available funds and Vodafone’s daily and monthly card recharge limits.
Next: read the failure message or ask support; do not assume repeated attempts will succeed.

- Voucher rejected?
Check: the 12 digits, the printed redemption deadline and that the voucher matches a recharge your service offers.
Next: keep the receipt and ask Vodafone for help before buying another voucher.

- My Vodafone will not open or sign in?
Check: connectivity, app updates and the email address on the account.
Next: follow Vodafone’s access troubleshooting guide, or recharge with Express Recharge in the meantime.

- Automatic payment failed?
Check: the failure notification and the saved payment method.
Next: review your service status and renewal date before deciding whether a manual recharge is needed.

The advice to keep receipts and avoid an unexplained duplicate payment is our practical precaution, not a Vodafone refund policy. ## FAQ

### Recharge Questions People Ask

- Can I recharge without any mobile data left?
Vodafone lists its web recharge pages as data-free, but a connection is still needed to load them. If the page will not open over mobile, use Wi-Fi, or call 1511 from the phone instead.

- Is a voucher’s expiry the same as my plan’s expiry?
No. One is the deadline to redeem the voucher; the other is the expiry of the recharge once it is applied to your service. Read both rather than treating an unused voucher as an active recharge.

- What if I stop recharging altogether?
Vodafone states a 120-day recharge deadline after your last recharge expires, before the service is disconnected. That period is not extra included service. Check the number’s status with Vodafone if you are unsure.

- Does saving a card only make the next payment easier?
No. Vodafone says saving a card or PayPal account also authorises automatic renewal. Read the auto recharge setting before you save one, and text NO ATR to 1263 if you want it off.

- Should I use a recharge code from an old article?
Check Vodafone’s current keyword list and your plan first. A familiar dollar amount does not tell you the product or whether it is still offered.

- Can I recharge someone else’s Vodafone prepaid number?
Yes. Express Recharge asks for the mobile number rather than a login, so you can pay for another person’s service from your own device. Confirm the number and the recharge they want before paying.

## Sources and How This Was Checked

Everything above comes from Vodafone Australia’s published support pages and the public Express Recharge screen, read on 10 September 2026. No number, voucher PIN or payment details were entered, and no call, SMS, recharge or auto recharge change was made, so Vodafone’s instructions are reported as the provider’s statements rather than our measurements. Plan prices are shown live from Wireless Choices rather than typed in.
