Google has announced Gemini 4 Argon, but the announcement does not mean every Gemini user can select it today. The 30 September release starts with selected cyber defenders through Google's Fairwind Program.

### What you need to know

Initial access is restricted. Google plans a wider release starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but its announcement does not give a general release date. Check actual availability in your account before changing a subscription specifically for Argon.

## What Google says has changed

Google describes Argon as a model for prolonged, complex work in coding, professional tasks and defensive cybersecurity. It also says the output-token limit increases to one million. That is a limit on generated output, rather than a claim about the amount of material a user can upload.

The announcement contains company-reported evaluations and examples of internal use. Treat those as Google's evidence for its launch claims. They do not establish how accurately the model will complete your own task, and we have not independently tested Argon.

## Why the access stages matter

Google says feedback from early testers will inform its safeguards before broader release. The announced sequence identifies intended first groups; it does not establish that access has already reached every paying customer.

For an Australian reader, keep three questions separate: has the model been announced, does a product offer it, and can this particular account use it? A launch story answers the first question. The other two need current product and account evidence.

Before paying specifically for a named model, check the plan description, the model offered in the product and any regional or workspace restrictions. Keep a copy of the terms that matter to your decision. A future rollout promise should not be mistaken for a feature available at checkout.

## How to assess it once you have access

Choose a task whose result you can check. A draft briefing could be compared with the source documents; a proposed code change could be reviewed against the requested behaviour. Keep sensitive material out of an initial trial unless your organisation has approved the service and data use.

1. Save a clear description of the task and the result you need.

2. Use a small, representative input you are authorised to share.

3. Check the answer against the original material, including missing details and invented claims.

4. Record the time needed for correction and review, then compare that complete workflow with your existing approach.

For example, a briefing that reads fluently but misstates a deadline has failed an important part of the task. Make that kind of check explicit before the trial. A long answer or a large output allowance is not, on its own, a useful outcome.

## Keep today's Gemini features separate

An existing app installation is not proof that a newly announced model is available inside it. Check the feature you need in the product you already use, and avoid assuming that one Gemini announcement changes every other Gemini feature.
