If you were planning to buy the new Apple Watch for its blood pressure alerts, read the footnote first. Apple’s Australian releases for Series 12 and Ultra 4, both dated 10 September 2026, say Hypertension Notifications will not be available in Australia at launch. This piece sets out what that means for a buyer here, what the watches do offer, and how to decide.
Apple says Hypertension Notifications are not initially available in Australia on Series 12 or Ultra 4 because additional regulatory clearances for these models are in process. No Australian date is given.
If that feature is your reason to buy, wait for Apple to list it for Australia. If you want the faster heart sensing and the readiness score, those are available at launch.
Why It Is Not Here
Both releases carry the same footnote: Hypertension Notifications will not be initially available in Australia on Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4, as additional regulatory clearances for the feature for these models are in process. Apple does not name the regulator or give a timeline, so any date you see elsewhere is a guess unless it comes from Apple.

What You Do Get
Apple says the new sensor measures heart rate every five seconds all day, measures heart rate variability up to 24 times more often than before, and turns those readings into a readiness score from 0 to 10 with one of four suggestions: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. Overnight vitals now include recovery HRV compared with your own baseline.
Our reading of that list: it is fitness and recovery information, not a blood pressure reading, and Apple presents it that way. A wearable score is a prompt to notice how you are going, not a diagnosis. If you have a health concern, a GP and a proper cuff measurement remain the tools that count.
