Google released a Gemini app for Windows on 10 September 2026. It sits in the background and opens over whatever you are doing when you press Alt and Space, so you can ask a question, draft a paragraph or make an image without switching to a browser tab. Google says it is available globally for Windows 10 and 11 from day one.

Google’s launch post does not set out the full free-account allowance. Two headline extras, Gemini Spark for multi-step tasks and Gemini Omni for video, need a Google AI subscription and are restricted to adults.
What It Does
From the Alt + Space window you can draft documents, manage tasks or create images without leaving your current workflow. Google describes summaries using Gmail and Google Drive. Do not assume signing in gives it access to everything: read the permissions requested before connecting any service. Image and video generation run from the same window.
Those are Google’s descriptions. We have not installed the app, so this article does not say how well it works or how much memory it uses in practice.

Who Gets It
The post says the app is available today globally for Windows 10 and 11. It does not list countries individually, and Australia is not called out, so the global statement is the only availability evidence we have. There is no mention of Windows on ARM laptops either way.

What Needs a Paid Plan
Two features carry conditions in Google’s footnotes. Gemini Spark, which Google pitches as a personal agent that can carry out multi-step tasks, and Gemini Omni, its video generation model, both require a Google AI subscription. Both are marked 18+, and Google adds that availability varies. Google also says the current feature set is just the beginning, with more native desktop capabilities rolling out over time.
