Apple announced iPhone Duo, its first folding iPhone, on its Australian newsroom on 10 September 2026. Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro models announced a day earlier, it is not on sale this month: Australian pre-orders open at 11pm AEST on Friday 16 October and the phone arrives on Friday 23 October, starting at A$3,499. This article sets out what Apple has published for Australia, so you can decide whether to wait.
iPhone Duo folds open to a 7.6-inch inner display and closes to a 5.4-inch outer display. In Australia it starts at RRP A$3,499 inc. GST for 256GB, with pre-orders from 11pm AEST on Friday 16 October and availability on Friday 23 October.
That is six weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro, which starts at A$2,099 and reaches stores on 18 September. The Duo runs the same A20 Pro chip as the 18 Pro; the premium buys the second screen, not a faster processor.
What Apple Has Announced
Apple describes iPhone Duo as its first iPhone with two displays: a 7.6-inch inner display when opened and a 5.4-inch outer display when closed. Measured as standard rectangles, Apple’s footnote gives 7.58 inches and 5.36 inches. The inner display has a nano-texture cover layer that Apple says reduces glare and makes the fold line less visible, and the phone opens on what Apple calls a precision hinge. The two colours are star white and night sky, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage.

Inside is the A20 Pro, the same chip as iPhone 18 Pro. Apple’s figures are a 6-core CPU up to 20 per cent faster than the A19 Pro, a 7-core GPU up to 40 per cent faster, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The cameras are a 48MP Fusion main camera with a built-in 2x optical telephoto, a 48MP Fusion ultra wide, a Centre Stage front camera that adjusts orientation automatically, and a second FaceTime camera beneath the inner display. Video recording goes up to 4K at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision. These are Apple’s claims; nothing was tested for this article.

Battery, Software and What Is Not Confirmed for Australia
Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display, up to 44 hours using the outer display, or up to 24 hours splitting time evenly between the two. The footnote says the tests were run by Apple in August 2026 on preproduction units with a representative usage profile, so treat the figures as a manufacturer benchmark rather than a promise.
iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27, which adds a Split View multitasking layout for the folding screen. Apple says Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27, in English to start, on Apple Intelligence-enabled devices set to a supported language; the same footnote says it will not initially be available in the EU on iOS. Apple’s Australian page lists English among the supported Apple Intelligence languages, but does not state a separate Australian timetable for the Siri beta. Do not buy on the assumption that every announced feature is switched on in Australia on 23 October.
