Pre-orders for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max open in Australia today, Saturday 12 September, with the phones arriving on Friday 18 September. Two days ago Apple also announced iPhone Duo, its folding iPhone, which does not take pre-orders until 16 October. If you are due for a new phone, the question this week is not only which Pro, but whether to wait six weeks and pay A$1,400 more. This piece lays out the decision using only what Apple has published for Australia.
Pre-order iPhone 18 Pro (from A$2,099) or Pro Max (from A$2,299) today if you want Apple’s newest conventional iPhone in hand on 18 September. Wait if the folding form factor is the point: iPhone Duo pre-orders open at 11pm AEST on Friday 16 October, it arrives on 23 October and starts at A$3,499.
All three phones share the A20 Pro chip and the same 256GB to 2TB storage options, so the Duo premium buys the second screen, not more speed or capacity. Carrier plan pricing was not checked; every price here is Apple’s outright RRP.

Apple quotes the Duo’s battery as up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display or 44 hours on the outer, from tests it ran in August 2026 on preproduction units. Those are Apple’s numbers; no phone was tested for this article, and the Pro models’ battery figures are not compared here because Apple states them differently.

Three Questions to Settle Before You Pre-Order
The following is editorial guidance built on Apple’s published dates and prices.

Software Timing
Both Pro models and the Duo run iOS 27. If you keep your current iPhone for now, Apple’s 18 Pro release says iOS 27 arrives as a free update on Tuesday 15 September, so much of the new software reaches existing phones before either new model does. That is a reason to update first and decide about hardware afterwards.

Sources and How This Was Checked
Prices, dates, chips, storage and colours come from Apple’s Australian newsroom releases for iPhone 18 Pro (9 September 2026) and iPhone Duo (10 September 2026), read on 12 September 2026. No device was handled, no order was placed, and telco plan pricing was not reviewed. The three questions and the checklist are editorial guidance.
