Kogan NBN Review: Does the Budget Price Mean Budget Service?

Kogan NBN Review

Australians looking to save a few bucks on their internet bill often turn their eyes towards Kogan. They’re known for their cheap prices, but does that mean their NBN service is any good?

We put Kogan NBN to the test, looking at speeds, reliability, customer service, and the overall value proposition to see if it’s a worthwhile option or if you’re better off spending your money elsewhere.

The Kogan Advantage: Price

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Kogan’s NBN plans are super affordable. We’re talking about some of the cheapest on the market.

This is a major draw, especially for budget-conscious users needing basic connectivity.

If you’re just browsing the web, checking emails, and occasionally streaming a show on Netflix, Kogan might seem like a no-brainer.

That said, they do offer really fast speeds on their Diamond and Platinum plans.

The Speed Factor: What You Pay For

Here’s where things get a bit tricky. Kogan doesn’t always deliver the advertised “typical evening speeds” you see on their website.

For context, these speeds are during the busiest time of the day (7 PM – 11 PM) and give you a realistic expectation of what your connection will be like when everyone’s online.

In our tests, we found that Kogan’s actual speeds often fell short, especially on higher-tier plans. If you’re paying for NBN 50, you want to make sure you’re getting close to those 50 Mbps downloads during peak hours.

With Kogan, it was more hit-or-miss. That said, we must note that everyone’s experience is different and impacted by so many different factors like line quality.

However, if you’re opting for their basic NBN 12 plan or 25 plan, you’re more likely to get the advertised speeds consistently.

Reliability: Expect Some Hiccups

Kogan’s NBN isn’t the most reliable on the market. We experienced occasional outages and speed drops during our testing period. While not everyone might face this, it’s something to be aware of, especially if you rely on your internet for work or need a rock-solid connection 24/7.

Customer Service Quality

Let’s just say Kogan’s customer service isn’t winning any awards. Getting in touch with a real person can be a bit of a mission.

Phone wait times were long, and while they do have online support, it wasn’t always the quickest or most helpful. If you run into a technical issue, be prepared to exercise a bit of patience.

Who Is Kogan NBN Best For?

Here’s the deal: Kogan NBN is ideal for:

  • Price-conscious shoppers: If every dollar counts, Kogan is hard to beat.
  • Light internet users: Browsing, emails, the occasional video? Kogan can handle it.
  • Tech-savvy individuals: Willing to buy your own modem and troubleshoot small issues.

The Verdict – Kogan NBN Review

Kogan NBN is a good option if you’re on a strict budget and your internet needs are basic. However, be prepared for potential speed inconsistencies as we suffered from.

If you value speed, reliability, and responsive support, it’s worth spending a bit extra on the higher speed tiers or another provider.

That last question now is, would I recommend Kogan Internet? well….YES! The truth is, for many, Kogan Internet is a great affordable option.

The reviews on Product Review reflect a huge number of happy customers and a customer service team engaged with its customers. For that, It’s well worth trying Kogan.

Important Note: The quality of your NBN experience can also depend on factors like your location and the technology type used by the NBN in your area.

Our review is solely based on my experience and users will experience different things.
