Coles Mobile Plans: Worth It?

Coles Mobile Plans

Coles Mobile aims to simplify the prepaid mobile plan landscape in Australia. Their focus is on uncomplicated, value-driven plans without the burden of long contracts. While they offer a mix of options for different users, the emphasis is on affordability.

Coles Mobile uses the Optus 4G Plus network, which should mean decent coverage for most users. They also allow you to keep your existing number when switching, a convenient but standard feature.

The real appeal of Coles Mobile lies in their competitive pricing. They offer various prepaid deals and frequent promotions. This makes them a good option if you want basic service at a low price and like the flexibility of prepaid plans.

However, don’t expect extensive features or cutting-edge network speeds – this is a service centered on keeping prices down.

Coles Mobile Prepaid Plans: Flexible but Basic

Coles Mobile offers varying prepaid plans with an emphasis on convenience over cutting-edge features. Here’s a breakdown of their structure:

  • Starter Packs – These provide basic talk, text, and a bit of data – good for trying the service but not for heavy users.
  • Long Expiry Plans – These offer a good value if you use your phone infrequently, as the credit lasts a long time (up to a year). However, the data allowances may not be generous for more active use.
  • Unlimited Talk and Text – This is a nice inclusion across all plans, but fairly standard in the Australian mobile market.

Coles Mobile is a decent option if you prioritize budget and flexibility. The Prepaid offering is quite competitive, I’ll attach some plan offerings below.

Coles Mobile Plans: Post Paid

They also offer Post Paid plans to their customers on a month to month basis. They are a no contract offering, so it gives you flexability to change provider at anytime.

Coles Mobile Plans vary in price and data, they have 2 core offerings at $35 and $45 per month. They also run promotions at times, with the $35 Plan currently half price.

I will show the two plans below for comparison, however for most, the $35 plan is enough data.

Coles Mobile Coverage and Network

Coles Mobile operates on the Optus 4G networks, aiming to offer reliable coverage across Australia. Customers on Coles Mobile plans can expect to be part of a network that covers 98.5% of the Australian population.

Coles Mobile’s relationship with Optus means that customers can expect reliable coverage, backed by an established network, as mentioned on their site regarding prepaid plans on Optus networks.

Mobile International Services

Coles Mobile Plans cater to those who love to travel or need to connect with people around the world. They offer simple solutions for both international roaming and making calls to other countries.

I was quite surprised with the International inclusions on their plans.

International Roaming

For the travellers, international roaming with Coles Mobile is fuss-free. They can opt for prepaid roaming packages before jet-setting.

It’s important to check the specific roaming rates for their destination before departure to avoid surprise costs. Coverage extends to a large number of countries, ensuring that staying connected while abroad is straightforward.

You can check Coles International Roaming Rates here.

International Calls

Making international calls from Australia with Coles Mobile is also convenient. Their plans typically include generous allowances for international calls to selected countries.

Unlimited calls don’t apply to premium numbers, special services, satellite calls, overseas toll-free numbers, or video calls. Here is a list of International countries you can call.

Supported International Destinations: Calls to these countries are included in the unlimited plan: Bangladesh, Canada, China (mainland), Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.

Conclusion

In all honesty, it’s probably worth a try, the pricing is extremely competitive with some great international options. That said, the reviews aren’t great on Product Review, with Coles Mobile getting a 1.8 star rating out of 5 stars.

Most of the comments are around the service, which is frustrating, but again all customer scenarios can be different unless you try it.

If you are considering to switch, make sure you have all the details to successfully switch mobile providers and be ready for change over.
